Galerie Marienbad warmly invites you to the first exhibition of works by artist Václav Malina. The opening took place on Friday, 9 May.

At the opening, Alena Mrovcová — curator of Galerie Marienbad — introduced the life and work of the artist. The exhibition also serves as a tribute to celebrate Václav Malina’s 75th birthday.

Malina, a native of Plzeň, is a remarkable figure who has made his mark on Czech culture not only as a painter and graphic artist, but also as a writer, gallery director, curator and respected educator.
His work draws on the rich tradition of Czech landscape painting, yet strives for a new interpretation — one that incorporates both the spirit of impressionism and the formal language of constructive and geometric elements. As Malina himself often says, the artist is always the best critic and interpreter of their own work. In his own words: “It is not the drawing followed by colouring that defines the painting, but the painting itself that ex-presses the relationship between colours. That is the essence of colourism — something that cannot be analysed, only felt.“
For Malina, pure sensuality in painting matters more than any complex, intellectual expressions. He often emphasises that nature itself remains the best teacher for any painter. To this day, he continues to paint outdoors with passion — a place where he not only finds space for reflection, but also for dre-aming.
