Jeff Beer (*1952) – Mysteries of Love

Located in the heart of Mariánské Lázně, Galerie Marienbad is nestled within the historic setting of the town’s famous colonnade. What makes this unique combination so appealing is the way it brings together authentic 19th-century architecture and contemporary art.

The gallery is dedicated to showcasing high-quality modern art with an international outlook.

On the first floor of the colonnade, visitors will find a completely redesigned, light-filled space offering 250 square meters of exhibition area. Together with the building’s distinctive 1970s architecture, the gallery provides a truly unique art experience.

Each exhibition is accompanied by short films shown in a dedicated video room, offering insight into the life and work of the featured artist.

Another distinctive feature is the gallery’s opening hours: the exhibition spaces are open year-round from 2 to 5 PM.

FRANTIŠEK HODONSKÝ:
Paintings and sculptures

GALERIE MARIENBAD presents an exhibition by František Hodonský, a leading figure of Czech contemporary art whose work has long been deeply rooted in the landscape of South Moravia. It is here that the artist has found his lifelong source of inspiration – in floodplain forests, water, wetlands, and in the constantly shifting energy of nature, which he perceives as a living, evolving organism.

Hodonský’s work spans painting, printmaking, reliefs, and sculpture. His paintings are characterized by subdued earthy tones and a rich spectrum of greens, with color playing a key role in his sensitive interpretation of reality. Rather than depicting the landscape as it appears, he captures how it is experienced internally. Expressive gestures and at times almost geometric abstraction open a space for personal emotion and deep inner perception.

The exhibition also features reliefs created from graphic matrices and sculptures that underline the artist’s versatility and exceptional three-dimensional vision. Hodonský’s visual expression naturally extends into poetry as well – lyrical poems inspired by his own paintings.

The opening evening will be accompanied by piano improvisations by Jeff Beer, created in direct dialogue with the exhibited works. This encounter of image, word, and music forms a unique and living whole.
