PETR MALINA: PAINTINGS

15. May 17:00 - 15. September 17:00

GALERIE MARIENBAD warmly invites you to the exhibition Petr Malina: Paintings.

Petr Malina: Paintings
Curator: Alena Mrovcová
Exhibition: 16 May – 15 September 2026, open daily from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Petr Malina is a realist painter whose distinctive, flat painterly style has remained remarkably consistent. His work does not tend toward dramatic shifts. He stays true to both his form of expression and, for the most part, to his chosen subjects. Through his clear and accessible view of the world around him, he appeals to a wide audience both at home and abroad.

Malina paints in thematic cycles and places strong emphasis on the colouristic treatment of his paintings. His palette tends toward restrained, earthy and unobtrusive tones. The human figure is a dominant subject in his work, often set within the environment of the city or placed in the calming surroundings of nature.

He is also fascinated by architecture, especially motifs of buildings, rooftops and courtyards, through which he evokes a sense of nostalgia for lost or fleeting time. He often places himself in the role of viewer and observer. At times, this can create a feeling of anonymity. His themes are often only suggested, allowing viewers to complete the story through their own interpretation, imagination or fantasy.

The exhibition also includes a conversation between the artist and art historian Petr Vaňous. The opening was accompanied by musical improvisations by pianist Jeff Beer, created in direct dialogue with the exhibited works. The encounter between image, word and music formed a unique and living whole.
